What can you do?

•Come and listen to the speakers and be equipped to defend the law and protect the vulnerable

•Visit your Member of Parliament either before or after the rally to express your opposition to any relaxation of the law in England and Wales.

EVENT: First European Symposium on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide

It is an honour for Care Not Killing to host this First European Symposium, which builds on several successful meetings in North America organised by the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition. The event will provide the opportunity to meet other campaigners from Europe and around the world.

LATEST NEWS THIS WEEK: Most people with locked-in syndrome do not wish to die

Tony Nicklinson is 58 and paralysed from the neck down after suffering a stroke in 2005. He is seeking legal permission for a doctor actively to end his life. The overwhelming majority of people with severe disability - even with ‘locked-in syndrome’ - do not wish to die but rather want support to live. British Medical Journal Adopts campaigning stance on Euthanasia

The British Medical Journal last week contained three articles calling the British Medical Association to take a neutral position on euthanasia. This is a carefully orchestrated move by a small minority of doctors with extreme views aimed at neutralising medical opposition and softening up public and parliamentary opinion in advance of new pressure to change the law. See further articles here and here.

Debate at BMA meeting

The British Medical Association (BMA) holds its annual representative meeting at the end of the month. A motion seeking to move the BMA to a neutral position on euthanasia will be debated. Read further articles here.

Judge makes wise and courageous call in deciding to continue treatment of anorexia patient

A High Court judge ruled  last week that it is in the best interests of a woman who suffers from ‘extremely severe’ anorexia to be fed against her wishes.
